What should we convey to minors about sexting?
There are risks to the privacy of the child whose image is disseminated. The personal image is a data that identifies us and when it is published, control over it and therefore, over our privacy is lost. The risks of contact with others can occur on two levels: the minor may be humiliated by another minor, but it can also happen that it is an adult who is behind the harassment. In this second case, this adult can blackmail the child to obtain new images with pornographic overtones and even attempt a contact in the real world. Perhaps the most unknown risk for boys is the legal one. Anyone who steals other people's messages or information is committing a crime, even if they are a minor. That is, appropriating the photos or videos of others and disseminating them to attack their privacy can lead to the corresponding punishment. Spanish law also expressly contemplates crimes associated with the possession and dissemination of child pornography. Full content in INTECO's Information Security Observatory
