The malware deposits a file in ELF format on the infected computer, and carries out a brute-force attack on the name and password of the user's router.
The objective of the malware is to open an IRC backdoor on infected computers, something that the computer security company Trend Micro has already been able to verify.
To do this, the antivirus company tested the malware on routers of the Taiwanese brand, D-Link, one of the leaders in the network components market, and was able to verify the success of the attacks.
At the moment, the malware, which has been baptized as ELF-Tsunami-R, has only appeared in Latin America as explained by Trend Micro, which has also stated that although the detected cases are still reduced, the danger it poses to computers is high.
