Every day, there are 160,000 attempts by children to visit websites with adult content. Most attempts occur after 11 p.m., leading to questions about whether the education we are giving our children is the most appropriate.
This data has been published by Kaspersky Lab, after evaluating the results of the parental control system used in its security solutions around the world.
In fact, the category "pornography" in the parental control system of Kaspersky Lab household products jumps about 4 million times per day globally. This system is the one that detects the use made by children of the computer, so there is no possibility that it is an adult who is registered when trying to enter these sites. Most attempts to enter this type of website are made in the afternoon, and especially from 11 at night, which leads to question the use that children make of computers in their daily lives.
Parental control systems such as Internet Security or PURE are designed to protect children from threats on the Internet. Moreover, thanks to these systems you can restrict the time that children can use the computer, the type of files that are downloaded from the Internet, regulate access to certain websites and monitor the use made by children of instant messaging programs and social networks, warning their parents if any inappropriate word appears in the Internet conversations that their children maintain.
Kaspersky Lab offers some tips on how to protect children on the Internet.
1. Talk to your children about the potential dangers they might face.2. If possible, place the computer in a family room so that online experiences are shared by the whole family. 3. Encourage your children to talk to you about anything they've seen online or that makes them uncomfortable.4. Guide them on what they can or cannot do. Here are certain topics on which we should reflect. (remember that the answers may vary as your children get older):a. Is it okay for them to register on a social network?b. Is it okay for them to make online purchases?c. Can they use instant messaging programs?d. Can they visit chats?e. Can music, movies or programs be downloaded?5. Restricts the content that can be accessed from your computer. Many Internet security solutions allow you to do this thanks to the Parental Control feature. In addition, some browsers include a content wizard that can help you configure your system easily.
