81% of children under 2 years old already have a dossier or digital profile with images published online. In the USA the percentage increases to 92% while in Europe the average decreases to 73%
Most parents wait until their child is 6 months old before publishing their photos and history on the network, yet there are 33% of newborns who have information published on the network within a few weeks of birth. In the UK, 37% of newborns live online from birth and the figure rises to 41% in Australia and New Zealand.
In 23% are the babies who have presence before birth, with the publication of ultrasounds on the Internet. The average increases considerably in the USA, with 34% of ultrasounds published, and Canada with 37%. On the other hand, in Europe and Japan the average is around 15%.
7% of babies and children under 2 years old have an email account created by their parents and 5% have their own profile on a social network.
The common answer to the question: "Why do you decide to post your babies' photos on the internet?"; in 70% of parents answered to share with family and friends the great event.
22% of parents surveyed in the US answered that their main reason was to expand the content of their social profiles, while 18% answered simply because their friends do it too.
Finally, AVG asked parents the degree of caution (on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the maximum and 1 the minimum) about the amount of online information available about their children in the future.
The average degree of caution is 3.5, with Spanish parents being the most cautious (3.9) and Canadians the least (3.1).
The survey has been conducted by the company Research Now, on 2200 mothers and fathers with children under 2 years of age during the week of September 27, 2010.
