The Future of Cloud Fire Alarm System Maintenance

Latin America. Maintenance of fire alarm systems and timely response to malfunctions are part of the service promise of installers. But maintaining, servicing, and supervising fire safety equipment can be time- and money-consuming, especially in the case of multiple locations.

Now, Bosch Remote Services for Fire Alarm Systems, a cloud-based solution, offer installers the ability to remotely monitor security systems, enabling them to improve maintenance, response times and significantly reduce their costs.

System integrators and fire protection know what we're talking about: A major customer requires urgent repair of their fire alarm system, but the technician has gotten stuck in traffic to their destination. Valuable work time is lost in traffic delay. What's more, when the technician arrives and examines the system, he realizes that the repair requires a crucial component that stayed in the office. A nightmare from a cost and efficiency perspective.

But what if fire equipment specialists manage to detect faults instantly and immediately identify the right parts to change them? Or better yet, what if they can monitor in real time the status of all critical system components and do the necessary preventive spare parts and maintenance before failures occur? And what if they offer this level of service without leaving their office, remotely via a PC, tablet or smartphone? That is, through a cloud solution and without the need to invest in control hardware.

It is exactly these functions that are at the heart of a new IP solution for remote diagnostics and maintenance of fire alarm systems: Bosch Remote Services. After a simple installation, without the support of IT specialists, installers can connect fire alarm systems to the Bosch Remote Portal via a secure connection and access a wide range of features: From permanent diagnostics to intervention in case of failures, the cloud system reduces service costs and optimizes operations with an easy-to-integrate package.

Plug & Play Installation
Security installers and system integrators can easily add Bosch Remote Services to new and existing fire alarm systems via the Secure Network Gateway. Ready to use, this package comes pre-configured for easy 30-minute setup of Bosch Remote Connection services, and is optimized for seamless integration with Remote Programming Software (RPS) and IP fire alarm systems. Once the installation is complete, all relevant Local Safety Network (LSN) devices and the 5000 Series Modular Fire Panel (or the 1200 Series Modular Fire Panel) are displayed on the Bosch Remote Portal via a reliable Internet connection.

Connected to Bosch servers, all devices in a fire alarm system share data about their status in real time, such as pollution values, temperature levels and operating hours. These data points form the basis for preventive planning of equipment services and spare parts, such as when a detector has exceeded the suggested limit of 80,000 operating hours. In addition, Remote Services allow the download of automatically generated reports on maintenance, as well as the online storage of service history.

In case technicians encounter complex issues during their physical inspections, Remote Connect keeps them in touch with experts in the office. These well-trained configuration experts can quickly modify the necessary parameters and guide technicians on site as if they were there themselves, thanks to Bosch configuration software; this is especially useful in demanding applications that require a lot of attention during initial setup. This not only helps companies optimize their costs, thanks to a more efficient allocation of expert staff, but also improves the top line of business by providing faster reaction times and better start-up.

A wide variety of detection values can be displayed for efficient maintenance.

Close to the customer through the cloud
Previously, this type of 24/7 monitoring of fire systems was the exclusive domain of a few large fire equipment service providers. But with Bosch Remote Services, SMBs can now offer their customers predictive maintenance based on up-to-date system status data, as well as permanent updates of detectors and panels on the control bus, without having to invest in control hardware. System integrators can preemptively access the contamination status of each individual detector and be prepared in their physical inspections with new replacement specific detectors.

Remote Maintenance also streamlines physical inspections for regular testing. In addition, these physical tests previously required two technicians: one to activate the detectors with gas and another to monitor the responses on the panel screen: now, the software incorporates a test function. Depending on local regulation, a single technician can start system testing at the push of a button and monitor the results in real time. All optical detectors in review mode appear ready for automated testing and change to the "tested" state after exposure of the gas test for activation. In the background, the Remote Portal also compiles an automatic test report ready to download.

The system also keeps professionals permanently informed: System integrators receive automatic Remote Alerts via email or SMS when a detector is faulty. At the same time, integrators have the option to share these alerts with their customers to proactively inform them about the status of their installed systems. They can also take advantage of the system's user management feature to define individual roles and configure authorized recipients using Bosch software. And to avoid overexposure to alerts triggered by events of the same type, you can also set a maximum alert limit. Meanwhile, all events will be stored in the Remote Portal's alert history, in case an alarm was sent or not.

Advantages for installers and customers
Bosch provides system integrators and their customers with excellent remote support and superior performance while optimizing their day-to-day operations. The cloud solution offers five levels of benefits:

1. Remote and ultra-fast troubleshooting and automated alerts that increase service levels and customer satisfaction.
2. Integration experts can provide remote support to technicians in the field, reducing costs and allowing installation companies to expand their business offering.
3. Technicians can leverage system status information to optimize their physical inspections, with efficiency improved by 25%.
4. Comprehensive user management allows you to define individual roles, access rights, and responsibilities as needed.
5. Subscribing customers to receive notifications keeps them informed about the status of their installed systems.

In an easy-to-install package, Bosch Remote Services for fire alarm systems combine all these benefits into a single, secure solution that scales with the business. Installers and system integrators reduce response times and perform only the necessary physical inspections.  Owners, building operators and site managers access a new level of fire monitoring security and ensure the continuity of their business.

How it works: Bosch Remote Services
Quick and easy installation: Installers connect the fire panel to the gateway via the Internet. After registering in the Bosch Remote Portal, they can enter their assigned Remote ID on the fire panel to complete the installation. In less than 30 minutes they can remotely configure services or troubleshooting their customers' fire safety equipment, which generates advantages such as:

  • Stay informed, prepared, and planning ahead.
  • Improve their differentiation in the market and achieve the satisfaction of their customers, thus increasing their profitability.
  • Use your time and resources more efficiently when performing installations, commissioning or on-site maintenance.
