Managed security services deliver real-time IT network protection

International. MSS (Managed Security Services) can be a big difference in the fight against cybercrime, offering monitoring similar to that of large corporations and without having specialized personnel.

Comstor explains managed security services with differential for channels and SMEs.

The big difference of Managed Security Services (MSS) is the protection of a network in real time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with efficiency similar to that of large corporations, but with a lower cost. These companies have a team of highly trained specialists, with up-to-date knowledge about virtual attacks, capable of keeping the monitoring of networks on constant alert.

The services offered by MSS are currently a big difference for SMEs that do not have an IT team available all the time or with the necessary preparation to act against cybercrimes. This is the solution administrators are looking for, offering efficient ways to monitor existing digital risks and threats.

Therefore, monitoring alone is not enough to prevent the invasion of a system, and it is also essential to have knowledge about how to recognize a potential threat. The response time between the discovery of an invasion and its counterattack determines the consequences for the business. The delay in combat increases the company's losses.

In addition to monitoring and rapid response to the incident, companies specialized in MSS, the so-called Management Services Providers or MSP (Management Services Providers), need to identify specific elements of the security assets of customers, because they have different types of tools, being necessary to configure them continuously to reduce the possibility of attacks.

The MSP can be hired per month, doing all the exploration of the client's networks or in a prop in case of any invasion, as well as to execute some correction.

It is also common for an employee of the supplier to be distributed to the company in order to vent to the IT team that is included in a specific project or to accelerate some security function that was being controlled remotely.

Managed services as a benefit for SMEs
SMEs are major hotbeds of cyber attacks. The main cause is the lack of preparation of the IT team or the total absence of a person acting with technology, opening opportunities for criminals to hijack information and ask for ransom on the hacked machines.

According to the Ponemon Institute, which conducts independent research on privacy, data protection and security policies, 55% of SMEs were attacked in the last year and only 14% of those interviewed said they were prepared to defend themselves against cybercrimes.

Small companies can hire an MSP on demand, controlling their investments with IT and according to the possibilities of their businesses. Having a monthly contribution scheduled for a supplier would be ideal, but it is possible to use it as a consultant, even to train the internal workforce. The possibilities are diverse, depending on the financial capacity of the business.

5 main advantages of MSS

1. Ease of detecting incidents
Many businesses go months without knowing that their systems are being monitored by hackers. In this time, important data may have been lost, modified, or stolen. With the hiring of an MSP, hardly an invasion passes unscathed by the monitoring of specialists.

2. Cybercrime experts
MSS vendors have highly trained and up-to-date teams in relation to the latest attacks. They also know the counter-attack shortcuts that speed up the process of stopping invasions.

3. Administration of different tools
Each company formats its system with the protection barriers that it likes the most or that meets its needs, respecting financial limitations. Therefore, knowing how to manage all of them using the potential of each one, is the role of a security professional, who can also indicate other software to complement the monitoring.

4. Full-time coverage
Most attacks don't happen during working hours. Especially among companies that are virtualizing their information and having the data in the Cloud. Thus, the work of 27x7 is fundamental.

5. Resource economy
As already mentioned, the MSP can be hired on a monthly basis or on demand, depending on the interest and financial capacity of each business. In addition to this greater control of resource expenses, through the MSPs there is no need to hire specialized labor to guarantee network security, generating economy also with salaries and labor benefits.
