Hikvision Earned FIPS 140-2 Certification

International. Hikvision announced that it has earned Federal Government Information Processing Standard (FIPS) Certification 140-2, another major achievement in Hikvision's cybersecurity program.

FIPS 140-2 is a U.S. government encryption standard created by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which is a division of the U.S. Department of Commerce. FIPS 140-2 is used by federal agencies in the United States and Canada, as well as regulated sectors such as finance, healthcare, legal and utilities, as well as the commercial sector.

Hikvision is the first company to achieve FIPS 140-2 certification for IP cameras and network video recorders (NVRs).

"Hikvision firmly believes that the video surveillance industry should adopt the same standards used by governments and highly regulated sectors," said Dr. Wang Bin, director of Hikvision's Network Informatics Security Laboratory and Network Security Department. "Hikvision is an industry pioneer for its pursuit and adoption of certifications in this area."

One of the most recognized safety standards worldwide, FIPS 140-2 is used and referred to by several regulatory entities and international testing organizations, including ISO. Global technology companies such as Apple Microsoft, Cisco and Google have earned FIPS 140-2 certification.

The FIPS 140-2 certification process is comprehensive and includes a series of rigorous testing by an independent and accredited U.S. security laboratory and confirmation of compliance by NIST.

For Hikvision, cybersecurity is crucial and is governed by the laws and regulations in the countries in which it operates. With a record of compliance with strict regulations, Hikvision products meet major safety and security standards, including: ISO 270001, ISO 9001:2008, CMMI Level 5, and AICPA SOC.
