Toshiba launches a line of specialized hard drives for the video surveillance sector

International. Toshiba Electronics recently introduced its line of 3.5" internal hard drives (HDDs) for 2018, which includes the two new families of internal disks S300 Surveillance Hard Drive and V300 Video Streaming Hard Drive, which stand out for their extensive storage and specialization for the video surveillance sectors, and video recording, editing and transmission, respectively.

The S300 family stands out for its robustness, speed and scalability, and is specifically suitable for the video surveillance sector thanks to its ability to store a large amount of data. This device is capable of saving the recordings of up to 64 security cameras running uninterruptedly 24x7.

Available with capacities of 4, 6, 8 and 10 TB, it is an increase of 2 TB compared to the 2017 generation. In addition, the S300 has an average failure time of 1 million hours and has a buffer of up to 256 MB. The S300s also incorporate Toshiba's Stable Plate technology and are compatible with large server systems thanks to their ability to back up up to 64 high-resolution video streams.

The S300 supports more than 8 disk bays, supports a workload of up to 180 TB per year, reaches up to 7,200 rpm at a maximum data transfer rate of 248 MB/s, and offers a three-year warranty. The S300 drives also integrate VR sensors to help suppress vibrations on multi-hard drive platforms. In addition, they are compatible with surveillance network video recorders (sNVRs), digital surveillance video recorders (sDVRs), hybrid sDVR systems (analog and IP), and RAID storage systems for surveillance.

The new V300 family of hard drives for videostreaming enables users to stream, record, edit and play back video on digital video recorders (DVRs), network video recorders (NVRs), set-top boxes and televisions efficiently and reliably. The V300s reduce power consumption by up to 25% (compared to Toshiba's P300 for desktop PCs) thanks to a lower rotation design that minimizes heat generation and prolongs disk life.

The V300s are optimized to operate 24/7, so they can also be used in video surveillance. Additionally, it incorporates Toshiba's Silent Seek technology to minimize noise and heat during operation. Its 64MB buffer offers smooth performance and has temperature controls to curb overheating. The V300 family includes 500 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB and 3 TB models, 6.0 Gbit/s SATA interface and two years warranty.
