International. It circulates in the most violent streets to stop crime and discourage gangs. The cameras are resistant to weather, shock and vibration.
Taking advantage of new technologies, the city of Haverhill in Massachusetts, United States, arranged the traffic on the streets of a vehicle of the MRAP type (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected, or Protected against Ambushes and Resistant to Mines), which circulates in the most critical points of this city of 63 thousand inhabitants as a factor of containment for criminals and preventive measure. Equipped with IP cameras, the MRAP records the surroundings for 72 hours and supports police operations in places prone to criminal actions, including gangs.
The MRAP combines different technologies. Axis P3225-LVE was installed on the front, allowing better vision in dangerous situations. On the passenger side, an AXIS Q3505-VE camera, resistant to shocks of up to a ton, focuses on specific areas with the help of Lightfinder technology, which displays color images in low-light conditions. In addition, the side view is complemented by two proprietary vehicle cameras, AXIS F1035-E, which have a 194-degree fisheye lens resistant to dust, rain, snow, vibrations, impacts and temperature changes.
The vehicle was joined by IR illuminators, which can be operated remotely using AXIS P8221, a module that integrates cameras with other devices.
"The MRAP is one of the weapons in our arsenal. The idea came from other departments and the vehicle is mainly used to deter. Above all, we are happy with the clarity and fidelity of the images, which were quite questionable before the installation of the Axis cameras," concludes Haverhill Police Department Network Administrator Ron Tuell.
The same AXIS F1035-E camera, created for vehicular use, is used by the city in the van that transports the prison population. The team captures the actions inside and outside the vehicle. Thanks to IP technology, all images are at your fingertips and can be viewed on cell phones or tablets through Milestone software.
