Industrial digitalization could grow up to 30% in 2017

Mexico. The adoption of digital solutions in the industrial sector could grow up to 30 percent this year in Mexico, driven by companies such as the multinational Siemens, which offers different solutions for the industry.

Digitalization is the new trend that will serve as a catalyst for progress and increase the country's competitiveness, before global manufacturing leaders such as China, explained Iván Pelayo, vice president of Digital Factory, Process Industries and Drives of Siemens Mexico and Central America.

Digitalization, also called the fourth industrial revolution, has among its elements the use of information technologies to control and potentiate the different production lines and link them with the areas of engineering and support, among other elements.

The German firm through its digitization solutions, allows the creation of the "digital twin" that works for the design of prototypes, simulation and optimization of processes.

"Digitalization is an evolutionary process that can begin with a small change within operations, in what can be a tailor-made suit for any need and any budget," Pelayo said.

Siemens collaborates with the Ministry of Economy in the Mexico 4.0 Alliance initiative, through which technological innovation and adoption of digitalization projects will be promoted, together with other leading companies in industry and manufacturing.

Iván Pelayo stressed that the objective is to strengthen local value chains made up of Mexican small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which represent 99 percent of companies in Mexico and are the backbone of the country's economy.

And it is that, digitalization is for all sizes of company and the solutions would allow to increase the competitiveness of Mexican SMEs, emphasized the director.

The Ministry of Economy and the German firm Siemens will promote digitalization in the industrial sector, through the Mexico 4.0 initiative, which will support more than a hundred projects in the country, valued at up to 36 billion dollars, in the next ten years.

The support will focus on sectors that trigger economic growth, said the Undersecretary of Industry and Commerce of the Ministry of Economy, Rogelio Garza, at the close of the Digital Enterprise Tour.

He said that the most advanced countries are those that have bet on new technologies, so he reaffirmed the commitment signed in February between the Ministry of Economy and Siemens, where joint work and investments were established by the German firm. The vice president of Digital Factory, Process Industries and Drives of Siemens Mexico and Central America, Iván Pelayo, highlighted that the Mexico 4.0 Alliance, in which other companies also participate, seeks to promote the adoption of digitalization in local value chains made up of small and medium-sized companies.

He said siemens' automation technologies are present in 60 percent of the country's manufacturing plants, which includes 60 percent of automakers, and food and beverage plants; 65 percent of mining projects and 76 percent of the cement industry.

The main objective of the digital Enterprise Tour is to showcase the Siemens portfolio and raise awareness of the importance of the adoption of digital technologies within the industry. "Our software systems and digital solutions are present in downstream processes as refining; in industries through energy management and protections in power transmission, distribution, automation and electrical services in various projects globally," he said.

Pelayo stressed that digitalization for Siemens is a priority, since since 2007 the company has invested more than four billion dollars in the acquisition of software companies and during 2017 it will invest more than 300 million dollars in digitalization. This, with the aim of consolidating itself as a digital company with a solid offer of software, digital services and cloud platforms for industries.
