Latin America. Infinera, a provider of intelligent transport networks, announced a series of new platforms within the award-winning DTN-X Family family designed to power scalable cloud networks.
With this announcement, Infinera is inaugurating the next generation of Intelligent Transport Network architecture that combines the best of scalable web technologies with the best of telecommunications technologies, obtaining a total cost of ownership (TCO) greater than 50% over conventional networks. Infinera has announced two new platforms, the XT-3300 and the XT-3600 "meshponders", as well as major upgrades to the P-OTN (Packed Optical Transport Node) XTC-4 and XTC-10 platforms.
Infinera has also announced the MTC-6 FlexILS chassis and the 20-port Super Channel FlexROAM (Flexible Grid Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer) multiplexer, a key element within one of the most widely deployed flexible network open-line systems.
New cloud-based applications such as the Internet of Things (IoT), network functions virtualization (NFV), XaaS, video, and virtual reality are driving an increasing amount of bandwidth across submarine interconnection networks, long range, data center interconnection (DCI). As cloud infrastructure expands and networks migrate to a new Layer C (Cloud Services) and Layer T (Intelligent Transport) architecture, service providers need their Layer T networks to adapt to new traffic flows. These scalable cloud networks enable service providers to efficiently respond to N x100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) N linear connectivity requirements powered by scalable web operators, as well as the various mesh connectivity requirements driven by more traditional telcos and residential customers. To meet these requirements, service providers need scalable cloud networks that are:
- • Scalable and sliding: multi-carrier superchannel technology that offers massive bandwidth per optical engine along with the ability to use SDN (Software Define Networking) control to independently tune, modulate and route each wavelength
- • Integrated and disaggregated - Integrated DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) and switching platforms that work in harmony with server-like platforms to build the most cost-effective networks possible
- • Secure and open - fully open and programmable solutions, with in-flight line-rate encryption and other critical security features
DTN-X family platforms now integrate the innovative Infinera Infinite Capacity Engine with Advanced Coherent tools. The new DTN-X XT-3300 and XT-3600 server platforms are the industry's first meshponder platforms, combining slide-out photonic functionality and muxponder functionality to provide hyperscalability of up to 2.4 terabits per second (Tb/s) along with fine granularity for optical mesh networks. Small form factor server-type meshponder platforms, developed from experiences in the scalable web market, interact seamlessly with chassis-based DTN-X XTC switching platforms.
The Infinera DTN-X XTC-4 and XTC-10 platforms have been upgraded to support 1.2 Tb/s per slot and more than double the switching and transmission capacity through non-disruptive and in-service upgrades. The new DWDM modules, powered by Infinera Infinite Capacity Engine, coexist with the deployed modules thus offering complete investment protection. The DTN-X XTC now offers up to 12 Tb/s of non-blocking switching capacity and unlike competitive systems, it has no trade-offs between client-side tax capacity and line-side capacity.
The open-line Infinera FlexILS system, which supports more than 50 Tb/s of fiber capacity, acquires superchannels from DTN-X platforms and enurts wavelengths to the destination suitable for flexible optical mesh networks. The new 20-port FlexROADM superchannel supports flexible network superchannels with single-channel granularity and full CDC (Colorless, Directionless, Contentionless) functionality while using six times fewer fibers than conventional ROADMs. FlexILS now includes the new MTC-6 compact chassis and is fully open and interoperable with Infinera and third-party terminals.
