Nutanix Democratizes Access to Hyperconverged Infrastructure with New Community Edition Software

Latin America. Nutanix announced the public beta of its new Community Edition software, which offers open access to the industry's hyperconverged technology without requiring incremental hardware investment. Community Edition is a limited-scale version of the Nutanix software stack that empowers the data centers of leading companies in more than 70 countries.

Available at no cost, Nutanix Community Edition breaks down economic and organizational barriers to the adoption of the industry's most advanced enterprise computing platform and delivers radical simplicity to IT operations. Open access removes hardware procurement and cost hurdles, enabling rapid deployment in dev/test and prep environments so users can directly experience the benefits of Web-scale technologies. Users can also take advantage of the NEXT online community for operational guidance and management best practices.

Community Edition extends the company's commitment to fostering an open, transparent and community-centered approach around innovative solutions for mainstream businesses. The no-cost software enables a full hyperconverged infrastructure deployment in as little as 60 minutes or less, and empowers a range of IT users:

Technology enthusiasts and partners can now be directly involved in building a vibrant ecosystem for the next generation of enterprise computing, including the development of complementary applications, services and utilities.

Students and academic researchers have unrestricted access to cutting-edge distributed systems technology and can have a real-world understanding of how IT infrastructure can optimally support advanced cloud, mobile, and big data applications.

"Since our first software release in 2012, Nutanix has been dedicated to open architectures and technologies, offering unprecedented choice and flexibility to its customers," said Dheeraj Pandey, co-founder and CEO of Nutanix. "Community Edition is the next step in the democratization of hyperconverged infrastructure technology, enabling anyone to experience the transformational benefits of our software. Only by eliminating the requirement for proprietary hardware and adopting commercial platforms can the next revolution in data center technologies become a reality."

This unprecedented release proves that the future of hyperconverged infrastructures is about software. As a 100% software-based solution, Community Edition runs on standard x86 servers from almost any vendor, including Dell, HP, Cisco, Lenovo, SuperMicro, and others.

The initial response to the company's first private version of Community Edition has been overwhelmingly positive.

"Installation and configuration was very simple, just like other Nutanix platforms. I had a co-worker who had rarely worked in warehousing and who completed it in a matter of minutes!" – Joep Piscaer, CTO of OGD ict-diensten, @jpiscaer

'As an advocate of Nutanix technology, I was invited to participate in the first Community Edition trials. I think the Community Edition software is a quiet idea and I hope it's a success." – Brian Suhr AHEAD Senior Solutions Architect, @bsuhr

Community Edition will be released as a public beta on June 8, the first day of Nutanix's User.NEXT Conference. Interested users can register online immediately to be placed on the waiting list. The first 500 users to register will participate in a sweepstakes to win a home lab valued at up to $3,000 and one of five conference passes. NEXT.
