Milestone Extends Support to More Than 1,000 ONVIF Certified Devices

International. Milestone Systems released Device Pack 7.9 for partners and customers using Milestone XProtect security solutions. Device Pack 7.9 is compatible with 1,012 devices tested by ONVIF, using the same optimized driver.

Support for Axis Communications' Zipstream compression technology has also been expanded. This rapid adoption is made possible by Milestone's determined efforts to drive the incorporation of open platform technology into the physical security industry.

XProtect Device Packs include tested, certified, and optimized drivers that allow you to manage all the relevant functionalities of a camera or other hardware device using XProtect software. The tests to which the controllers are subjected guarantee the best quality in a video surveillance solution, a fundamental aspect to achieve maximum operability, efficiency and stability of the system.

Milestone works closely with Camera Partner Program (CaPP) device manufacturers to achieve optimal interaction between their devices and the XProtect VMS and has always promoted standards for controllers such as ONVIF, committed to supporting the widest range of cameras and devices on the market.

For ONVIF-compatible devices, it is commonly assumed that a device that has passed the ONVIF verification test will perform perfectly on a given infrastructure. This is not always the case, as there are very specific needs and conditions that need to be considered to ensure adequate interoperability and take full advantage of the functions of a device with a VMS. Before being included in the list of hardware with milestonesys.com support, ONVIF-compatible devices have undergone verification tests to ensure full functionality with XProtect open platform technology.

In the CaPP program, this ONVIF functionality test can be done through Milestone or suppliers can perform it at their facility, having taken a four-day training course taught by the company. The ability to perform the entire testing process can save camera manufacturers time and money in their market penetration strategy.

Device Pack 7.9 also includes support for Axis Zipstream technology, an advanced mode that allows for variable compression and bitrate. According to Axis, this can reduce bandwidth by up to 50%, without significant loss in image quality.

This technology increases compression when less motion is detected in the video. In addition to reducing bandwidth, using advanced compression technologies such as Zipstream can also save disk space on a system's recording servers. Milestone's VMS has been supporting advanced compression technologies since 2012.

Added extended support for Vivotek cameras. 64 new Dahua devices have also been added, all based on the ONVIF standard. In the latter case, the compliance test was performed by Dahua. Other suppliers that thanks to this launch enjoy the new device support are, among others, Pelco of Schneider Electronics, IQEye of Vicon and Canon.
