Colombia. The trend of growth and complexity of malwares for smartphones does not seem to stop, as well as the evolution of them.
According to Fortinet for this 2015 it is expected that the malware that was commonly exclusive to PCs, will become more "mobile" affecting smart devices and of course tablets. This leads us to think of a massive affectation since every day millions of mobile devices are activated which would be potential objects for malware.
On the other hand, the trend of affectation to the Android platform continues to increase. During 2014, 90% of viruses affected this system. This is because Android being the most used operating system, the development of malicious code focused on the one with the greatest presence.
Currently, the existence of 900 thousand malicious samples and the appearance of 1,300 new ones per day in this system are reported. On a smaller scale, Apple's iOS and Windows Phone have been affected.
Initially, viruses were only about spreading; while today they capture user information or control device functions such as the camera.
Another very common malware on these computers are those that are responsible for sending SMS or make calls to destinations that profit from the "air time" that the user has available.
Botnets have also been identified, specifically for networks and mobile devices, which were only a trend in conventional networks.
Some of the main affectations of 2014 were:
- Heartbleed: At the beginning of 2014 this vulnerability was identified that did not directly affect the devices but those that use or were based on OpenSSL.
- Celebrity photo leak: In October, photos of celebrities related to accessing iCloud accounts were leaked.
- Shellshock: affected all versions of Bash up to 4.3 on Unix-based systems. It affected iOS and Android devices, as well as desktop operating systems.
- Code4HK: famous spyware that affected Android and Iphones with Jailbreak. This can take information from contacts, SMS, location, mail history, among others.
