Argentina. After the National Registry of Persons (Renaper) validated its international security features, the electronic passport for Argentine travelers is already in force.
This new document incorporates a chip that stores both owner data and biometric data. "The new passport will be inviolable, with a different numbering than the DNI and with an alphanumeric identification," Interior Minister Florencio Randazzo said.
The validation of the person is done through their scanning when they arrive at immigration posts around the world; and by incorporating the biometric and biographical data of the subject that appears on the screen and that are encrypted on the chip.
On the other hand, Minister Randazzo said that the passport will be valid for 10 years and will cost US$90; "Although it will cost US$33 more than the current document, Argentina will be the first country to incorporate an electronic passport and will still remain the cheapest in South America," the president concluded.
The Argentine government assured that those who have processed the conventional passport do not have any inconvenience, since it is normally valid until the date of its expiration.
