Spain, the main issuer of phishing

Spain. Despite the boom in Eastern European countries and Turkey, Spain remains the country with the highest number of servers sending phishing, according to IBM Internet Security Systems based on a record from the first six months of 2008. The percentage of servers identified in Spain has increased from 14.8% in 2007 to 16.7% so far this year. Even so, these attacks usually originate outside of Spain and take advantage of remotely controlled servers to send these messages. The study confirms that the links containing the fraudulent messages are directed to servers that are mostly located in the United States (26.1%) and South Korea (23.8%) and, generally, impersonate communications from financial institutions. On the other hand, the report highlights that spam tends to be increasingly basic with short texts and links to a URL. Russia, with 11.6% is the main sender of spam, and Spain, with 3.9% occupies the fifth place.
