Brazil. The Mayor's Office of Belo Horizonte has chosen Motorola Solutions ' digital mobile radio (DMR) system for its Integrated Operations Center (COP-BH).
The new system supports 1,200 public agents from the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM), Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU), Civil Defense and Inspection, Traffic and Transport institutions to collaborate and coordinate urban services for the 2.7 million inhabitants of Belo Horizonte.
"With the implementation of Motorola Solutions' digital radio technology, we have seen a turning point in our operations," said Georgia Ribeiro, Director of COP-BH. "The new solution allows teams to not only communicate more effectively in daily activities but also in critical situations and during large events such as Carnival, in which nearly 4 million people participate during four days of celebration."
The COP-BH uses a built-in GPS application, called SmartPTT, which allows dispatch centers to quickly identify the location of agents in the field and redirect them to where they are needed most, helping to provide a more agile and efficient response.
"The more agile the response to critical events, combined with increasingly effective coordination, the greater the chances of success of the operation," Ribeiro said. "In situations of heavy rain, for example, we know the location of the equipment and can communicate in real time. This difference promotes agility and efficiency in emergency care for people in Belo Horizonte."
COP-BH has also implemented WAVE PTX, a broadband push-to-talk service, interoperable with Motorola Solutions' DMR radio system. The service allows users to communicate seamlessly via voice, data, and video across a variety of devices and networks and share conversation groups with radio system users.
"Technology plays a vital role in helping our communities become safer," said Gustavo Daza, MSSSI VP and Director of Enterprise Sales, Motorola Solutions Latin America and the Caribbean. "Manufacturing technology that helps Belo Horizonte respond more quickly and efficiently at critical moments is part of our commitment to protecting people, property and places around the world."
