Ecuador. Thanks to this, the educational community can now use their mobile devices as credentials to access both the facilities, as well as special rooms, laboratories and services.
The physical credentials of the UIDE, although functional, presented opportunities for optimization in their issuance process, since they required photographing each student, which implied a significant use of time and resources. In addition, the college admissions process could benefit from improvements to simplify it.
To counter these challenges, 52 HID Signo readers were installed, supporting a wide range of credential technologies, including HID Mobile Access via native Bluetooth and near-field communication (NFC) capability, and supporting credentials in digital wallets.
Now each student can enter more efficiently and safely, simply by bringing their cell phone close to the sensor, while the directives constantly register those who enter the campus.
Edgar Baus, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of UIDE, underlined the integration of the solution
with the university's active directory: "HID offers us innovative tools that integrate seamlessly with the university's academic and security processes."
An investment with the future in mind
In addition to complying with rigorous security and data protection standards, this technology allows access management that aligns with UIDE's current trends in more sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.

The response of the students is considered positive, which led to an increase in the number of virtual credentials issued, which initially were 2,000 and were expanded to 5,500 due to the high demand in this first stage of the project that is being executed on the Quito campus.
With expansion plans to the Guayaquil and Loja campuses, UIDE is moving forward with the implementation of this solution: "We have implemented this technology on our Health 2 Sciences Campus and we are in the process of complete restructuring at UIDE Loja. We hope to integrate this technology in a comprehensive way in the institution and offer an improved student experience," said Nicool Guerrón Moreno, Director of University Management at UIDE.
It should be remembered that the International University of Ecuador (UIDE) currently has more than 10,000 students and 900 employees distributed in the campuses of Quito, Loja and Guayaquil.
