Securitas celebrates nine decades in the security industry

Securitas cumple nueve décadas en la industria de la seguridad

International. To celebrate its 90th anniversary, Securitas recalled the milestones that have shaped its trajectory, highlighting that it has been characterized by solid values, technological innovation and putting people first.

Founded in Helsingborg, Sweden, in 1934 by Erik Philip-Sörensen, Securitas has grown from a traditional night guard operation to a global leader in security solutions.

In the mid-1940s, Securitas began integrating technology into customer solutions, growing rapidly after World War II. Securitas pioneered automatic access control and made history by launching the world's first connected online ATM in 1968.

By elevating the human presence and expertise with technology, Securitas has helped clients focus on their core business – continuous development that laid the foundation for what is now Securitas Technology.

Since 1958, founder Erik Philip-Sörensen had the vision to establish Securitas' values of integrity, support and vigilance, documenting them to protect the profession and ensure its integrity.

In the 1980s, former CEO Melker Schörling's leadership emphasized simplification, customer focus, and international expansion, driving growth in Europe, the United States, and beyond through strategic acquisitions.

The divestment of complementary businesses allowed Securitas to refocus on specialized security services, while maintaining its commitment to operational excellence and core values throughout its global expansion journey.

"Living our purpose, helping to make the world a safer place, has a profoundly positive impact not only on our customers but also on the world at large," said Securitas Chairman and CEO Magnus Ahlqvist. "Leaders who embody our timeless values have shaped our culture and maintained a commitment to excellence. With our focus on continuous improvement and innovation, we are in a better place than ever to address the evolving needs of our customers and the broader security landscape."

From the outset, Philip-Sörensen recognized that well-educated people with a clear career path could positively influence an entire industry. By daring to expand, understand customers, and stay curious about what was coming, he laid the foundation for what has become a leading global security company.
