Cartagena's historic center will have more security cameras

Centro histórico de Cartagena

Colombia. Within the framework of the security plan called Titan 24, the installation of new video surveillance equipment was launched in the walled sector of the Colombian tourist destination.

The company in charge of the execution of the project is Distriseguridad. So far, the new cameras are already providing service in the sectors known as Palito de Caucho and the intersection of Portocarrero and del Colegio streets.

According to the authorities, the project contemplates the integration of all the technological systems that converge in the historic center, in order to optimize the tasks of prevention and response to crimes committed in that area.

"We started the installation of 38 new security cameras in 20 points of the old city. There are 21 fixed cameras for facial recognition with Artificial Intelligence and 17 PTZ cameras that can make 32 zoom movements", said Jaime Hernández Amín, general director of Distriseguridad.

The new video surveillance system will allow real-time recording and monitoring from the CAD of the Cartagena Metropolitan Police and will facilitate countering criminal activities in sectors of the city with high tourist, commercial, heritage, banking and national and international event activity.

"There will also be a fiber optic installation in three phases that will connect with the Command Center of the National Police, located in the Manga sector, to substantially improve the data acquisition that the historic center has today", added Hernández Amín.
