International. Like many other sectors of the economy, air transport industry has found apps are an invaluable resource for improving the passenger experience while optimising its operations.
This is stated by Enrique Mendoza Arce, CEO of enITma, a company dedicated to software development and the acceleration of digital transformation in different areas: "In recent years, the impact of mobile applications on society has become evident; They have revolutionized the way we communicate, inform and perform various tasks on our mobile devices."
So far, enITma has developed applications for booking and check-in, real-time flight tracking, gate notifications and baggage status updates. Its mobile solutions also offer users features such as electronic invoicing, pilot and flight attendant portal, per diem and lodging, payment terminal for passengers, ground transportation and ... traveling with pets!
What is it about?
Taking flights in the company of pets is a practice that has become very common, although it has brought notable challenges for both pet owners and airlines. TripAdvisor figures indicate that, worldwide, 53% of people with pets usually travel with them.
This concept generates an income for Mexican airlines of more than $100 million Mexican pesos per year (almost US$6 million), a significant amount of money that implies a great responsibility for the airlines.
Now, thanks to Internet of Things (IoT) technology and the integration of RFID and GPS chips, enITma has developed an application that allows passengers to track and monitor their pets during the trip when they are documented.
The application uses chips placed in pet carriers or containers, allowing them to be tracked in real time. In addition, you can interact with pets through video and voice transmissions, providing peace of mind to owners and enhancing the travel experience.
"Working with airlines, we saw the need to create some kind of technology that would support passengers traveling with their pet and, at the same time, that the airline could guarantee their protection," says Mendoza Arce. "On the screen you have the commands, you have a high-definition camera and a microphone, you can see perfectly what your pet does in the carrier. You can even mark him and you can talk to him. It really is a very simple system to handle," he says.
