Latin America. XProtect 2023 R2 has just been officially announced by Milestone Systems, it is the latest update to its video management software (VMS).
The launch of R2 comes after the R1 update was announced earlier this year. This time the brand presents significant advances such as adaptive playback, restrictions on video display, an adaptive display function for exported videos, a new and improved Rapid REVIEW installer, as well as improvements in the failover capabilities of the XProtect management server.
New features
* Adaptive Playback that allows the Smart Client to seamlessly switch between high- and low-resolution streams. This adaptive streaming capability helps reduce system load and decrease viewing load on customers, resulting in a smoother viewing experience. In addition, by reducing the load on the system, it is possible to connect additional cameras.
* Share Camera Link, which allows Mobile Client users to share links to live video streams. This feature has the potential to significantly improve the efficiency of field security personnel by allowing them to share a specific live stream with a colleague. This is particularly useful in high-stress situations, where the ability to share a visualization can be crucial for an effective response.
* Adaptive display function for exported video projects. This new display mode in the Smart Client player adjusts the layout of the cameras according to the number of cameras playing simultaneously, thus maximizing the size of the display. This feature helps users to better manage their exported videos.
New security measures
R2 introduces the "video restrictions" feature, allowing operators to limit access to certain video streams, including video, audio and device metadata, to authorized personnel only. In addition, user permissions can be set to determine who has the ability to create, view, edit, and remove video restrictions.
In addition, it allows the use of pre-existing databases during the installation process, to install XProtect VMS products with limited SQL Server permissions for a managed database in the on-premises environment.
Failover improvements
XProtect's new management server failover enhancements provide greater security and reduced cost of ownership in large installations when management and SQL servers are running on separate computers. The new system also reduces the number of servers required by eliminating the domain controller and allowing both management and recording servers to run on the same computer.
