Top 10 del cibercrimen por país

Mexico. Over the past year, 13 out of every million Mexican Internet users were affected by cybercrime. This figure puts Mexico in ninth place among the countries most affected by this type of crime in the world.

According to an investigation on the density of cybercrimes globally, by the cybersecurity company Surfshark, a total of 1,100 Mexicans were victims of cybercrime in 2022, which represented an improvement over 2021, the year in which the country had 1,300 victims of cybercrime.

Nonetheless, the country's ranking by cybercrime density remains high, highlighting the need for continued efforts to improve cybersecurity measures in this territory.

Phishing was the most prevalent cybercrime worldwide in 2022, while investment fraud turned out to be the most financially devastating.

Gabriele Racaityte-Krasauske, spokesperson for Surfshark, commented: "Last year, 801,000 people were victims of cybercrime worldwide, resulting in a total of ten billion dollars in losses. Because of how lucrative cybercrime is, there's no reason to think that cybercriminals will stop attacking anytime soon. That's why it's more important than ever to be vigilant and develop your cybersecurity defenses, which applies to both businesses and individuals."

Here are the key points from the research done by Surfshark:

  • Mexico ranked ninth for cybercrime density in 2022, with 13 victims out of 1 million internet users.
  • A total of 1,100 Mexicans were victims of cybercrime in 2022.
  • The UK topped the list of cybercrime density with a staggering 4371 cybercrime victims per million internet users.
