Chile. Convergint installed a new command and control center at the Valparaiso TPS, better known as the South Pacific Terminal. This surveillance and monitoring solution expanded the security of the terminal and allows faster in all processes.
Convergint was the integrating company chosen to implement its new command and control center in TPS, a company dedicated to the operation and administration of Berthing Front number 1 of the port of Valparaíso.
Jhonatan Pizarro, senior project engineer at Convergint commented: "Part of the challenges of this great project were the deadlines established by our client to be able to comply with the total enabling of the monitoring room, since at the time of execution and implementation the port was in operation 24-7. That is, the eyes of the operation of the port could not fail to be seen. Together with the brands, we managed to meet the estimated time of total delivery of the products and thanks to our team of certified technicians and engineers, we managed to comply with the installation, configuration and programming of the system in the indicated time".
For his part, Andrés Repetto, TPS operations manager, said: "The purpose of this project was to renovate our current control room. The systems and components we had had already had an excellent useful life since their installation, approximately ten years ago, it was time to make that technological renovation. That change that brings with it an expansion of the number of square inches of screen and also an update of the components and controllers that allow us to manage the CCTV system of the terminal. "
In general, this update allows the video monitoring of more than 300 IP cameras, communication system via digital radio frequency, climate and status of live systems, which, for Seal Telecom, multinational solutions integrator and Convergint company "is meaning much more efficiency and security for the entire terminal".
Technical details
A total of 33 monitors are occupied with which a video wall of 12 square meters is formed that allows to visualize all the systems and subsystems that are part of the port.
"The curved format of the video wall allows a better visualization of the information for all operators in their different shifts, and is also respecting the display rules for this type of systems."
According to Seal Telecom, these systems have a high level of stability. "The room is fully automated and all its resources can be activated through touch screens arranged in the control room."
Rodrigo Arriagada, head of security systems at TPS, explained the selection process of Convergint: "We were looking for equipment to renew both the screens and the controller that made up our old video wall, and this is how Convergint offered us different solution alternatives opting for the one that best suited our needs".
Faced with this, Repetto added that "in addition, this update allows us to incorporate new systems, such as controlling our entire necessary system through tablets and integrating other applications or other connections with other systems, such as incorporating technology such as artificial intelligence into the operation."
In addition to video surveillance systems, Convergint installed portable equipment for the detection of drugs and explosives. This solution can accurately detect a wide range of illegal narcotics and military, commercial and domestic explosives, with an identification speed of 8 to 12 seconds.
Finally, Arriagada concluded that "the experience of its technicians and the Convergint team managed to make a solution that tailored to our requirements and maintains today Terminal Pacífico Sur at the forefront of security, protection and technological advances".
