Investment in security in Mexico occupies around 4% of GDP and will continue to rise

Seguridad en México

Mexico. Jorge Hagg, the director of Expo Seguridad Mexico, ratified the commitment of this event to promote the culture of denunciation and fire regulations, as part of the commitments of the event, while giving figures on the state of fire safety and prevention in Mexico, also gave relevant data on the investment that the public and private sector makes in this area.

According to the Zero Impunity portal "in Mexico out of every 100 crimes, only 6.4 are reported; and out of every hundred crimes that are reported, only 14 are solved," that is, the probability that a crime committed will be solved in this country is only 0.9 percent. To these figures is added a low trust towards public ministries and state prosecutors, "only 10.3% of people say they trust these institutions a lot."

In that sense, Expo Seguridad Mexico ratified both in its press conference on March 14 "its commitment to contribute ideas, provide training, configure negotiation spaces, and present the widest offer in equipment, systems, technology and advanced solutions in the field of personal, patrimonial and institutional protection."

Jorge Hagg

During the meeting held by the organizing committee of Expo Seguridad Mexico, where various media were present, Jorge Hagg, said that for the next edition, which is the twentieth, they are heading to exceed the records of the latest version, in which more than 250 exhibitors specialized in security and more than 10 participated. 800 visitors, including representatives of companies with purchase potential ranging from 5,380 dollars (100 thousand Mexican pesos), to more than 52 thousand dollars (more than one million Mexican pesos).

Hagg also indicated that, "according to the INEGI, in a 2022 report, there were just over 1.7 million economic units that implemented some defense measure so that insecurity and crime did not affect their operation, profitability and viability, and therefore allocated an average of 39 thousand 949 pesos to protect themselves; the figures vary by entity, but that is the environment we must face, and Expo Seguridad Mexico is a forum that contributes to reduce those numbers."

In this space was also Muna Dora Buchahin Abulhosn, forensic investigator who has received the Certified Fraud Examiner of the Year Award, international recognition granted by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) to certified examiners and anti-fraud experts.

The specialist indicated that those institutions that have prevention and deterrence mechanisms are more likely to stop fraudulent practices in time. "That is why it is important that people express themselves, that they denounce. They must document cases of corruption with an appropriate method, investigation and audits necessary to support the evidence that is presented to the authorities, and can be taken to consign the folders. That's the way."

To complement the day, Jaime Gutiérrez, general director of Development of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), pointed out the importance of promoting information around fire prevention, electrical hazards and other related risks, more if one takes into account that, from 2002 to 2022, in Mexico more than six thousand people have died in urban fires; In addition, from 2018 to 2022 there were more than 95 thousand urban fires, that is, almost 65 a day, losses have generated losses of more than 53 million 800 thousand dollars (or one billion Mexican pesos) annually.

To conclude, Gutiérrez indicated that "to the extent that norms and standards are exercised, it can be guaranteed that buildings observe structural integrity and are safe against fire; minimum requirements for the quality of materials and workmanship in construction are observed; Management and cost savings can be more efficient for builders and developers, who will also be able to comply with the respective laws, to avoid fines and cancellations."

Expo Seguridad México 2023 and investment in the security sector
It is worth noting that, during his words Jorge Hagg, also referred to the national indicators of investment in security, where he stressed that the government has a budget allocated for security of between 2 and 2.5% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), but to that is added that the private initiative invests another 2% of (GDP) in this issue.

To this I add that for a company "protecting itself, its employees and executives is an investment of approximately 5% of its income, and I say invest because we have that awareness, although many of them think it is an expense". Data with which he explained the importance of this industry and the amount of annual money it can move only in Mexico.

In addition, he announced that they will have a demonstration, on the day the event opens, on how to prevent trucks that make route from distribution centers from "magically disappearing", or in other words they will explain how technology protects vehicles in the supply chain, with the support of a company that is dedicated to installing equipment and monitoring vehicle telematics.

To conclude his speech, Hagg explained that during Expo Seguridad México 2023 all aspects of security will be addressed, starting with the personnel, continuing with the facilities, the vehicles, and ending with the data that is generated, that is, it will be sought that the entire panorama and aspects of the security ecosystem are covered and represented there.

Finally, the link to the registration of the event is now available, free of charge until April 14 at this link https://n9.cl/gpogz
