5G and security, the bet of Brazilian international airport

5G aeropuertos

Brazil. An innovation center that will start operations in 2023 is the commitment of Belo Horizonte International Airport for the implementation of 5G as a pioneering connectivity to optimize its operations, including security, logistics and mobility, generating lower costs and greater operational efficiency.

The bet is aimed at having a green airport, which is strategically located in the heart of the country, one hour flight for 70% of the national GDP and a true hub of connections to 50 Brazilian destinations, based on two intrinsic pillars: innovation and sustainability.

This is the profile of the terminal that is consolidating the concept of smart airport in Brazil with the pioneering spirit of 5G technology, in addition to cellular bandwidth. The focus of the transformation into a smart airport is connectivity with fluidity in the passenger experience, high operational performance, safety, guarantee of efficiency and reliability.

The initiative, made possible by the synergy with companies and anchor entities of national relevance, in search of collaborative innovation, guides the creation of the project of the first Innovation Center in the country, which should come into operation at the airport in 2023. "We have a mini city installed in our terminal, with a range of services such as parking, shops, cargo logistics, security and a wastewater treatment station, where around 40,000 people pass through every day," reveals the general director of BH Airport, Kléber Meira. "To get an idea of the importance of this indicator, of the 853 municipalities of Minas Gerais, 89% have less than 40,000 inhabitants," he explains.

"Our goal is to consolidate the concept of smart airport connected to the smart city environment, developing the airport of the future, with mobility and safety", reinforces Kleber Meira. In this scenario, the Minas Gerais terminal plays the role of test pilot, opening space to configure itself as a great testing ground, in an ecosystem conducive to innovation, connecting companies, startups and universities to the airport, which is configured as a backdrop for this environment presenting itself as a mini city, "he adds.

The Innovation Center will be located on the second floor of the airport. In this potential technological laboratory, innovation ceases to be a differential and becomes a strategic tool, focused on improving the performance of the airport and the passenger journey, with the consequent reduction of costs.
