International. The Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, an important space for the provision of health services in Spain, faces its security needs supported by Lanaccess solutions, specifically with its VMS and 360-degree cameras of the same brand.
Hospital Clínic is a public institution that has been awarded on different occasions, an easy to understand if taken into account in its facilities, as it is composed of two hospitals that cover a wide spectrum of medical specialties, two centers specialized in biometric research and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona. among others, which add up to an area of 200,000 m2.
Precisely, due to the importance of its services and the breadth of its spaces, this hospital needed efficient security solutions. Amadeu Bergés, head of security of the institution, is the one who has tested the performance of the solutions provided by the Lanaccess brand.
One of Amadeu's responsibilities is to improve operational efficiencies in terms of safety. Among the first improvements he launched, the renewal of the video recorder park stands out, which consisted of equipment that we manufacture of the same brand, but of previous references. "In the process of renewing VCRs, we went from Lanaccess to Lanaccess," Amadeu explained.
For the head of security, the new equipment brought two substantial improvements. On the one hand, "the solution is much more stable, they are much more robust. The operating system has fewer moving parts and therefore power outages affect less."
This happens because the electricity supply offered by UPSs is limited. Therefore, network-connected equipment, such as video recorders, must deliver maximum performance with minimum power consumption.
The second advantage was that the new devices took up less space, an aspect that the hospital values in aesthetic terms, while for Amadeu it means having the same image processing in less space, "before it would have taken an entire rack; now we only need 7 or 8U."
VMS System
The hospital controls its more than 500 cameras, between analog and IP, from Lanaccess' management software. This VMS provides access to the video transmission from a flat panoramic view or in multiple views, in addition you can also download images and check the technical status of the connected equipment.
In addition, this program allows you to configure and manage integrations with other manufacturers of security devices.
Camcorders
"360º cameras for me are discovery; Not only is the field of view wider, they are also more discreet. They seem advisable to me in a psychiatric space, for example, if the doctors have to observe the behavior of a patient within a space, in the conditions they consider appropriate, "said the head of security.
Other integrations
With regard to the hospital's access control systems, from the application of the manufacturer Dorlet, the security manager can review the cameras integrated in the Lanaccess system. This operation simplifies operations and increases visibility in critical spaces. One of these spaces, explains Amadeu, surrounds the closets that store tablets and smartphones.
The hospital uses these devices to facilitate communication between patients in delicate health and their loved ones: "The magnetic contact opening the door sends a signal to the camera to record a few seconds before the door opens. If the closet door doesn't close, the camera keeps recording relentlessly." Therefore, the integration prevents or corrects mistakes, thefts and fraudulent use of devices.

"People counting used to be done with an accountant, someone was pressing the button, Amadeu recalls, "now, a machine can do it by telling what it thinks are heads."
Lanaccess' algorithm allows analyzing, detecting and alerting about objects and events using deep learning neural networks. It has also evolved in costs, becoming affordable to the hospital sector.
