International. Hanwha Techwin unveiled how it has managed to mitigate the effects of industry component shortages and supply difficulties. As a Korean company with manufacturing in Vietnam, it has not been as affected as the companies that produce and operate in China.
"Direct manufacturing has also allowed Hanwha Techwin to perform greater supervision and control of production during the pandemic compared to competitors who commissioned production from third parties. Thus, we were able to ensure that our employees could work safely in the factory and that the production line continued to run smoothly. As a result, we can supply 60-70% more units than a year ago!" said Uri Guterman, Product and Marketing Manager, Hanwha Techwin Europe.
On scalability, Guterman explained that as manufacturers they can buy materials wholesale in advance and their R&D team can quickly redesign a specific product if required when raw materials are in short supply.
Faced with the difficulties in transportation and the freezing of shipping routes between Korea and Europe, Uri said that "to overcome these difficulties, we invest more in alternative transport, increasing air transport and special transport options (for example, in the US we went from train transport to truck transport). Although this has higher costs, it has ensured that our customers and installers will continue to source the products they rely on."
Finally, the executive highlighted the importance of relying on their values: "We have developed resilience and agility in our supply chain and production lines, and that is why I am communicating all this to you, our customers, partners and installers. We're dedicated to keeping the world moving, and that means planning what we can control and having the adaptability to respond to events we can't predict."
