The Future of Commercial Flight: Facial Authentication

futuro de los vuelos comerciales

Mexico. According to an iProov survey, 95% of Mexican consumers prefer a verification service that speeds up the check-in process to avoid long lines at airports, the answer proposed by the brand is biometric facial authentication technology.

Filas para check - in en aeropuertoIn detail, this study conducted with consumers, which interviewed 16,000 people located in eight different countries, indicated that 85% would use or consider using a ticket or identification verification option from home. That percentage rises to more than 90% when you look only at respondents from Mexico.

In addition, 95% of Mexican consumers surveyed said they would likely choose an airline or travel provider if they offered a pre-verification service from home to speed up the process.

Moreover, 52% of Mexicans said that long lines at airports for passenger check-in is the worst moment of the trip, the second step, which corresponding security checks, was considered tedious by 54%.

iProov proposal
According to iProov, one answer to how airports and airlines can reduce bottlenecks during travel, using the home-based check-in services that users want, is the use of biometric authentication and facial verification technology.

Andrew Bud, founder and CEO of iProov, said: "Secure verification technology allows travellers to complete their ticket and ID checks from the comfort of their homes, so they don't need to do it at the airport." In addition, he explained the benefits of using facial biometric verification and authentication in this process.

"Facial verification has already proven to be a safe and accessible solution for many applications and processes; for example, more than 50% of consumers in Mexico already use facial verification to access their mobile banking applications. We have shown that online facial verification can be applied to improve the consumer's travel experience, making life easier for travelers and operators around the world."

In that order of ideas, iProov comments that its Genuine Presence Assurance solution offers a brief and passive facial scan that confirms the identity of a remote traveler, thanks to the fact that it compares the image obtained with a reliable identity document and ticket.

Likewise, this technology also verifies that the user is a real person and not a presentation attack using a photo or a mask. In addition, it confirms if authentication is taking place in real time. This way, once they arrive at the airport, a traveler's face is their access ticket when they pass through a biometric corridor and authenticate their identity.

Finally, it is important to note that this technological solution is not unique to the airline industry, as it can be applied to eliminate check-in bottlenecks for other forms of travel, including trains, cruise ships, car rentals and more. In fact, earlier this year, iProov partnered with Eurostar for the successful testing of a remote fast-track service, SmartCheck.
