Colombia. A total of 200 new facial recognition cameras were installed in the city of Pereira, which are added to the 297 already existing, of which 289 are only for control and surveillance and the remaining 8 for plate recognition, as reported by the mayor of the city, Carlos Maya.
Additionally, the City Government acquired two new drones with identical reconnaissance characteristics, in addition to the four already in use.
The 200 new cameras will be strategically located in places referring to continuous behavior of crime, to achieve with this artificial intelligence the reduction of insecurity, the dismantling of gangs dedicated to theft in all modalities, as well as the continuous traffic infractions among others.
These cameras will prevent high-impact crimes, attach the maximum of evidence, in this case facial recognition and be able to clearly prosecute criminals when it is the case.
The component that adds in this technological acquisition for Pereira, is to streamline each process; because it has already been successfully tested in the different capitals of the world, yielding very positive results in the reduction of crime, thanks to these specialized tools it will be possible to track stolen vehicles or used for various crimes, find lost people, people with antecedents and that in some cases are reviewed as the most wanted by the authorities.
This meeting was attended by the different institutional bodies of the city as well as local and national media that verified first-hand the efficiency of these technological tools at the service of citizens.
