International. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1.3 million die each year as a result of traffic accidents. Indicating among the most determining risk factors human error, along with high speed when driving and lack of safety in road infrastructure.
However, according to data from the World Bank, in its Guide to Road Safety Opportunities and Challenges profiles of low- and middle-income countries, in 2016 there were 107,057 deaths on the roads of Latin America, to which it is added that 1,605,855 people were seriously injured.
Returning to the problems that usually lead to road accidents, the fatigue and drowsiness of the person behind the wheel stand out. In that sense, since 2019, the European Commission accepted an agreement that indicated new rules to reduce accidents, where it established that from 2022, the use of new safety technologies in vehicles would be mandatory to protect passengers, pedestrians and cyclists. On socialising this agreement and new safety features in cars, Commissioner Elżbieta Bieńkowska, responsible for internal market, industry, entrepreneurship and SMEs, commented: "The vast majority of these accidents are caused by human error."

This is why it becomes vital and urgent to take measures to improve vehicle safety, as well as promote safe transport for all road users.
Technological solution for road safety
Hikvision designed and developed an on-board video security system to drive in-vehicle incident protection and prevention. This solution ranges from image recording, road deviation alarms, speeding and emergency, as well as an analysis of abnormal driving behavior.
The system offers 360° video coverage inside and outside the vehicle, providing real-time situational awareness for safe driving. Even video footage is reliably transmitted and stored, so it can be used as forensic evidence in the event of a traffic accident. In addition, it generates information such as the flow of passengers, which allows optimizing the distribution of the vehicle to improve its comfort.
Miguel Arrañaga, Hikvision's pre-sales director, said: "From the analysis of anomalous driving behaviour and 'school bus stop' warning to the control of crucial blind spots, the on-board safety solution has proven that it can improve vehicle safety in all aspects, in order to effectively reduce traffic accidents and keep all road users safe. Hikvision's on-board video security system helps commercial customers maximize their safety with added value that takes vehicle operation to a new level."
This system claims to be high impact and improve road conditions in cases such as:
Operational efficiency for utility bus fleets, which includes passenger flow counting, based on video analysis, which allows drivers to know the number of users in real time, to meet the maximum quota of passengers and social distancing. It also includes the detection of abnormal driving behavior, which can detect driver fatigue and send an immediate alert to the monitoring center, in addition to allowing two-way communication with said center for emergency cases or alerts.
On-board assistance capabilities for school buses, which highlights the identification card that gives schoolchildren access to the transport system and notifies parents by mobile message that the minor is on their transport route. It also includes a stop sign for the vehicle with an audible and visual warning, to inform other vehicles that there will be students crossing the street.
Audio and video data collection with cameras inside and outside freight trucks. This surveillance sends alarm and GPS data through integrated video recorders and 3G/4G wireless networks, to perform remote monitoring and management of your routes. Additionally, the Truck Solution offers camera views that cover blind spots, so drivers know about vehicles entering these areas.
Analysis of abnormal driving behavior for taxis and carpools, with notifications reminding drivers to stop and rest, in case of evidence of microdreams or drowsiness behind the wheel. In addition, Hikvision also provides a camera in the trunk that serves to track forgotten luggage after departure, and can even help with cases of theft.
