Dahua security solutions monitor Ferrari's racetrack

Dahua Imola

International. The Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola is a legendary place for all motorsport enthusiasts. Since 1953, the Emiliano-Romagnolo circuit has been the heart of a land historically linked to speed and a scene of epic sporting achievements and more.

"A small Nürburgring, with the same technical and spectacular resources and an ideal track length," said Drake Enzo Ferrari, founder of the iconic racing team and the car company, who gave the racetrack his name (along with his son Dino) in 1988.

The Autodrome hosted the Formula One Grand Prix from 1980 to 2006. After a long break, it resumed operations on 1 November 2020 for the debut of the GP dell'Emilia-Romagna, which allowed the return of the cars to the Imolese asphalt track. With this great return, the management of Autódromo also decided to entrust the renewal of its video monitoring system to Dahua Technology Italia and DZ Engineering.

"We seize the opportunity of the return of Formula One to implement and improve our control and safety system, particularly video, which makes us one of the most technologically advanced racetracks in the world," says Pietro Benvenuti, General Manager of the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola.

Challenges
The Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola is a landmark of the Motor Valley region and an ideal place to host the world's major sporting events. Their request was to have control of the entire track with the ability to quickly categorize and retrieve records of important events during each race.

Dahua Technology developed a track-wide monitoring system, allowing the customer to handle everything that happens on the track at any time with high-definition technology. This will place the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola among the most technologically advanced racetracks in the Formula One World Championship. More importantly, it is a big step towards safety not only for Formula One but for all the events it hosts.

Solution
To help the client achieve more value, Dahua Technology designed a specific project tailor-made for this type of event. The company uses the experience it gained from its partnership with DZ Engineering on both national and international tracks.

Dahua Imola
"In this regard, our proposal consisted of a 4K video system with fixed and motorized cameras along the circuit, connected via Dahua switches [2x PFS5924-24X and 1x PFS4218-16ET-240] to a network infrastructure of the right size to avoid latency, while our custom DSS server [DSS4004-S2] manages real-time records and instant playback within the control room," explains Diego Schiraldi, Sales Area Manager of the Emilia-Romagna region of Dahua Technology Italia.

Together with DZ Engineering, Dahua Technology successfully delivered the new CCTV camera system of the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola. For this project, 26 fixed cameras [IPC-HFW7842H-Z] with 4K definition and 11 PTZ cameras [SD6AL445XA-HNR-IR] with 4MP resolution were installed to cover the entire circuit.

"We have been cooperating with Dahua for years and have completed several projects, the most important in Singapore, Hanoi and the Autodromo di Monza," said Fabrizio Fabbri, Project Manager at DZ Engineering.

Results
Once again, Dahua's video monitoring solution meets the needs of the end user with high-quality products and services. Massimiliano Ghinassi, head of track services and director of motorsport events, described his experience in using the Dahua system: "The steps have been much further away than the past in terms of image quality and selection of cameras: PTZ, domes and fixed. The improvement is clear, especially when it comes to single-brand races with cars and motorcycles of the same type where race numbers can be difficult to distinguish.

"The zoom, resolutions and frame rates are considerably better and the interaction of different cameras ensures maximum security in our facilities. The resolution is excellent even during recording and we can export files in real time for examination during and after races."

Hand in hand with DZ Engineering and ALLNET. ITALY - the official distributor of Dahua Technology Italia, Dahua Technology can offer the customer a customized system that excellently fulfilled its task even during the weekend of the Formula One Grand Prix of Made in Italy e dell 'Emilia-Romagna 2021 (16-18 April 2021). This success once again demonstrates the value and ability of Dahua Technology and its partners in designing and delivering integrated security solutions suitable for various application scenarios.
