Mexico. NVT Phybridge helped a luxury resort in Cozumel simplify infrastructure requirements during the deployment of an IP surveillance system. Using FLEX innovations, the popular resort was able to reduce costs by thousands and reduce implementation time by 50%, ensuring minimal disruption for guests and resort staff, which operates 24/7.
The international hotel and resort company was the world's first luxury hotel brand. The organization opened its first hotel in 1949 and has since expanded around the world to include a rich and varied portfolio. Each hotel has its own distinctive style, from iconic historic elegance to luxurious tourist destinations.
The organization's luxurious resort in Cozumel, Mexico, is located on a tropical Caribbean island surrounded by one of the largest coral reef systems in the world. Guests can enjoy the elegant beachside pool, relax in the spa, or enjoy authentic cuisine at one of the many oceanside restaurants. However, the resort still required a robust surveillance system to ensure the safety of staff and guests.
The organization faced several challenges while planning for digital transformation. The complex did not have an existing surveillance system and needed to establish the necessary network infrastructure to support Axis IP cameras. The organization was hesitant to consolidate the surveillance system and IP cameras into the main business network, due to the cybersecurity and complexity of the network.
Questions were also raised about how axis IP cameras would support the facility-wide, given the 328-foot (100 m) range limitations of standard Ethernet switches. The organization was unwilling to bother guests with the construction of IDF cabinets and new cable ducts throughout the facility. Dissatisfied with traditional network design philosophies, the client sought an innovative solution.
Modern LAN Design
The Resort in Cozumel discovered NVT Phybridge's FLEX24 Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch and contacted a digital transformation specialist at NVT Phybridge for more information. The client was introduced to modern LAN design, which helps simplify and accelerate modernization to IP while creating a secure and robust IP-enabled network. The organization was impressed and decided to test the solution in their environment with a free proof of concept and without obligation.
After a few simple setup steps, the award-winning FLEX24 switch, powered by SmartPathPoE, provided Ethernet and PoE++ using a single Category 6 cable at 2,000 feet (610 m), six times farther than a standard PoE switch. The resort in Cozumel was impressed with the solution and decided to go ahead with the implementation of Axis IP surveillance, using the FLEX24 switch and Modern LAN principles to achieve incredible results.
Principle #2: Create a Secure and Robust Local Area Network
The organization leveraged NVT Phybridge's SmartPathPoE technology to establish secure, robust, point-to-point connections for each IP camera, significantly reducing the need for IDF cabinets throughout the facility.
Principle #3: Use far-reaching PoE innovations to maximize return on investment
FLEX24 technology and Modern LAN design helped the customer avoid installing unnecessary IDF cabinets and cable ducts throughout the complex. The solution saved the organization more than $10,000 and reduced total deployment time by more than 50%.
Principle #4: Build Physically Separate Networks for Dedicated IP Applications
As organizations continue to deploy more and more smart devices, the primary data network has become increasingly complex, difficult to manage, and vulnerable to cybersecurity threats. By leveraging NVT Phybridge's switch innovations and Moderna's LAN design, the spring in Cozumel was able to build a physically separate network for the new IP surveillance system, ensuring a cybersecure and easy-to-manage LAN solution.
Change the conversation to improve the outcome
The international hotel and resort company took a proactive approach to finding new and better ways to support its digital transformation goals in a financially and socially responsible way. NVT Phybridge helped the organization change the conversation about traditional LAN design, leveraging Modern LAN principles and PoE innovations to:
- Establish a physically separate network for axis' new IP surveillance system, ensuring the performance, security and reliability of the central data network
- Build an easy-to-manage surveillance network with less complexity and downstream support issues
- Reduce total deployment time by 50%
- Reduce infrastructure costs by more than $10,000
- Eliminate the need to install expensive cable ducts, significantly reducing IDF cabinet requirements
The project also provided a great deal of experience for the integrating partner. "The FLEX solution was perfect for the customer; providing a reliable, robust and simple solution to overcome their barriers," said Israel Oropeza, Project Coordinator at Robsan. "I would recommend this technology to other organizations."
Congratulations to Robsan for winning the IoT Pioneer Award for helping Cozumel Resort simplify and accelerate its modernization to IP. Learn more!
