Mexico. Authorities, executives and international experts of the digital ecosystem will meet at the Latin American Telecommunications Congress 2016 (CLT16), from June 20 to 23 in Cancun, Mexico.
The most important annual meeting for the discussion of ICT public policies in Latin America, will allow to share and analyze good practices and solutions to deepen the development of telecommunications, encouraging investment and walking towards the goal that all Latin Americans are part of the Connected Society, with what this means for the social and economic development of the region.
The organizers of CLT16 are the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Secretariat of Communications and Transport of Mexico (SCT), CAF -development bank of Latin America-, the GSMA (global association of the entire mobile ecosystem) and the Inter-American Association of Telecommunications Companies (ASIET).
Ministers and regulators, congressmen, academics and senior representatives of companies in the telecommunications ecosystem of Latin America will participate in CLT16 in a series of seminars, workshops and plenary sessions to expose and debate public policies that enhance Latin American connectivity.
The regional meeting consists of four days of varied activities and high-level meetings, among which are:
- Plenary Session Latin American Telecommunications Congress 2016 (Monday, June 20 and Tuesday, June 21)
- CE-Digital Workshop: Competition Policies in the Digital Age (Wednesday, June 22)
- CAF Workshop: Connectivity and the Digital Single Market in Latin America (Wednesday, June 22)
- Mexico Seminar: "Balance of the telecommunications reform in Mexico" (Wednesday, June 22)
- CPR Latam Annual Conference: the interdisciplinary network of research centers brings together the most important ICT academics in the region with regulators and industry (Wednesday, June 22 and Thursday, June 23)
- The event also has the active participation of organizations such as the Federal Institute of Telecommunications of Mexico (IFT), Latin America & Caribbean Network Information Centre
- (LACNIC), Internet Society (ISOC) and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
Future regulation of the digital ecosystem will be one of the key themes of the event, at a time when the pace of regulatory changes is not reaching the speed of transformation in the digital world. CLT 2016 will also address topics such as investment in infrastructure deployment, the opportunity posed by the telecommunications industry for the socio-economic development of the region, and the challenges of the Digital Economy in the configuration of a regional market for digital goods and services.
