Country in Argentina adopt thermal video surveillance technology

Argentina. The large size of private neighborhoods is usually a factor of vulnerability if they do not have an adequate video surveillance system, which allows monitoring the different sectors and acting preventively to avoid incidents.

An example of this is the exclusive Highland Park Country Club, located in the Pilar district, which recently incorporated a powerful video surveillance technology, both day and night, to monitor the perimeter areas of the country. Faced with the innovative resources offered by Axis thermal cameras, we opted for equipment that has a large linear range regardless of light conditions.

The technology of the installed AXIS Q1921-E network cameras allows a 24-hour control of the space and identify people and objects in adverse situations such as the presence of smoke, haze or dust. In addition, no additional lighting sources are necessary because they create images from the heat emitted by objects, vehicles or people, and require a minimum of storage and bandwidth. This is because they are compatible with video compression tools, an important aspect due to the number of cameras that this exclusive country has.

This project included the "Cross Line Detection", a video analytics that is processed within the same cameras and that identifies moving objects that cross a virtual line, automatically activating an alert.

"After conducting several tests, we concluded that the best option for our needs, which consisted mainly of high-quality detection and a wide margin of coverage, were Axis thermal cameras," says Luis Bitocco, Head of the Systems Department at the Highland Park Country Club. "In addition to their easy installation and handling, the monitoring work we can do with them is optimal. Although we have not detected incidents, they guarantee us to carry out a circulation control over that perimeter area," he adds.

Another advantage of this equipment is the possibility of incorporating audio and video elements that allow optimizing the video surveillance system, so that the personnel in charge can act more effectively in the event of any unforeseen event. For this reason, axis P8221 audio module was integrated, to which sensors can be connected to activate, for example, an alarm. This add-on supports power over Ethernet, making installation simple, cost-effective, and reliable.

For Iván Abrigo, director of Axial Security, Axis' partner in Argentina, the project for Highland was the first in which VAPIX, Axis' own open application programming interface,  was used to achieve integration with other systems. In this case, the integration was between the audio system and the analytical Cross Line Detection, an application that detects moving objects that cross a virtual line and automatically triggers an event.

"When someone passes the detection line determined by the customer, the thermal camera perceives the action through the analytical Cross Line Detection, which is embedded in the camera," explains Abrigo. "That generates an alarm that is transmitted via TCP/IP to the control room, located about two kilometers from the camera. In that room, audio announcing the intrusion is automatically played, alerting responsible operators and allowing the condo to act in advance of potential problems. All this thanks to the programming made with the VAPIX," he adds.

Another important advantage of these cameras is that they allow optimal circulation control over the wide perimeter in which they have been installed, given that it was possible to cover a segment to flat field of 305 m2 and another of 178 m2. And an extra benefit has been the integration of an audio module that has an integrated low-power amplifier for small speakers, which allows, if necessary, to give an order or issue an alarm.

A member of axis' technical team in South America visited the Country to ensure everything was 100%. "We reviewed the operation of thermal cameras and their integration with the audio alarms that sound in the control center," says Rodrigo Sanchez, Sales Engineer at Axis Communications. "Overall, everything was well installed."

On the other hand, an NVR system was also incorporated with functionalities that allow the recording, analysis and playback of network video for optimal performance of the camera set.
