International. Video security solutions manufacturer Uniview highlighted its fourth global location in the global smart video surveillance market during 2019, following the report of market research organization Omdia, dubbed: "Global Intelligent Video Surveillance Information Service Report 2020" (VSAIS 2020). The report replaced traditional security statistics with intelligent security for the first time.
Uniview entered the IP and smart markets very early and led the large-scale deployment of "Security + AI". It has been changing for five consecutive years on the list, successively surpassing companies from the US, Germany, South Korea and Japan, continuously rising from twelfth place in 2014, eighth place in 2015, seventh place in 2016, sixth place in 2017, and has remained stable at fourth place since 2018. Meanwhile, Uniview remains in third place in the Chinese market.
According to the research report with Omdia, the detailed classification of the companies involved will not be disclosed to the public. The total market share of the world's top 15 manufacturers is 66.4%, compared to 65.1% the previous year, demonstrating that the market share continues to meet with major manufacturers. The specific situation is as follows:
- In the network security camera market, Uniview ranked third;
- In the back-end market (encoder, recorders and VMS), Uniview ranked third;
- In the Linux-based storage device market (NVR/DVR and hybrid storage devices), Uniview ranked third;
- In the VMS platform market, Uniview ranked third;
- In the Server, Storage and HCI market, Uniview was the fourth largest manufacturer;
- In the independent video analysis software market, Uniview ranked third.
Omdia is a global technology research institution, which is a combination of the research department of Informa Tech (Ovum, Heavy Reading in the field of telecommunications, Tractica in the field of machine vision) and the technology research department of IHS Markit. VSAIS' annual report has been published for more than 10 years, and the integration and transformation of the consulting industry is reflected in institutional entities ranging from IMS and IHS Markit to Omdia.
The smart security statistics are in line with a new round of industry trends, involving traditional network cameras, Linux-based storage, VMS, video encoders, newly added external storage, and video analytics software sold separately without hardware link.
Hermit Zhang, President of Uniview, said: "We are pleased with Omdia's predictions and insights into industrial technology trends. Over the past eight years (2011-2019), Uniview has worked its way up to becoming a world-class company in terms of revenue and application technology, and 90% of our IP cameras are AI cameras with smart features. But at present, artificial intelligence has only replaced the word "artificial". There is still a long way to go in smart innovation.
Taking machine learning as an example, it focuses primarily on people and vehicles, front-end, back-end and edge intelligence that are in a very narrow range. In the future, true machine learning is to enter the entire spectrum and the entire natural state, including animal bionics. In terms of organizational structure and proof of innovation, Uniview notes that it is conducting research work 5 to 10 years in advance to support a trillion-tier global AIoT market."
