International. Genetec announced that firmware Vault, a camera firmware update service developed by an open architecture VMS vendor, now supports cameras from Axis, Bosch and Panasonic, in addition to existing support for Hanwha Techwin cameras.
Designed to help IT administrators and system integrators stay up-to-date with the latest camera firmware, Firmware Vault helps organizations ensure they have the latest manufacturer protection against cyber threats.
Genetec assures that the outdated firmware of the cameras presents one of the greatest weaknesses in the defense of cybersecurity. But for many security administrators, keeping up with the latest updates can be a time-consuming task. According to recent research by Genetec, 68.4% – or almost 7 out of 10 – of cameras are running out of updated firmware.
The Firmware Vault streamlines the process of updating camera firmware so that customers can implement the latest cybersecurity protection measures as soon as they are available, a step that is crucial to ensuring an organization's resilience against cyberattacks. The Vault Firmware is available for free with Security Center from version 5.8. from now on.
"Making sure the latest version of the firmware is running on your cameras can be complicated and time-consuming. However, when the firmware of just one video surveillance camera is outdated, the entire IT network can be at risk of a cyberattack. Firmware Vault makes it easy to keep up with the firmware update process," explained Mathieu Chevalier, Head of Security Architecture at Genetec.
The functionality of the Firmware Vault is based on the same highly secure cloud solution, used by the Genetec Update Service to provide access to Windows updates and Security Center. When a new camera firmware is available, system administrators receive a notification in the Security Center configuration tool. This allows them to track and download new firmware packages, in addition to the manufacturer's latest cybersecurity protection measures for connected cameras, in a matter of minutes. Firmware Vault allows users to have a unified view of all cameras and update status, so they can take corrective action faster and more efficiently.
