Genetec presented its latest mobile license plate recognition system

Internacoinal. Genetec announces its next-generation mobile license plate recognition system. The new AutoVu™ SharpZ3 camera offers new levels of information in vehicle analysis, situational awareness and accuracy.

Ideally designed to meet the needs of parking managers, who use mobile ALPR as part of their control activities, the new SharpZ3 can help them track vehicle types (cars, vans, trucks, buses, motorcycles) in parking lots or around the city, as well as analyze the evolution of the combination of these types of vehicles over time.

For police forces using mobile ALPR to support their investigations, the SharpZ3 allows patrols to identify cars based on the type and color of the vehicle where the license plate could not be identified by witnesses.

"Traditional ALPR systems solve common parking and law enforcement challenges, such as finding vehicles of interest and violators," said Stephan Kaiser, general manager of AutoVu at Genetec. "The SharpZ3 addresses emerging issues that are not addressed by current technology, in order to help customers gain insight into the types of vehicles in their city and how their streets and sidewalks are used."

AutoVu SharpZ3 is among the first specialized vehicle ALPR systems in the world to use Intel's latest technology in machine learning and computer vision to enable new data through innovative analytics. The AutoVu SharpZ3 system will not only be able to improve license plate reading accuracy in harsh environments (such as bad weather, heavy traffic and high speed), but it will also be able to record additional vehicle features in real time, such as its type, color and more, and without requiring large amounts of bandwidth.

Designed with a third optical sensor, AutoVu SharpZ3 can accurately capture multiple board designs in complex urban environments. These include flat, embossed, reflective and anti-reflective plates. The additional sensor will also allow for more accurate positioning of vehicle data on maps to provide more accurate occupancy data than before.

With its modular design, SharpZ3 offers users the flexibility to add new functionality over time. This reduces the complexity and cost in hardware replacement.

With future releases, the machine learning capabilities in the AutoVu SharpZ3 will enable a number of potential new applications, such as enabling cities to use their ALPR-equipped vehicles to address other operational issues, such as detecting unauthorized road construction, discovering abandoned e-scooters or bicycles in unauthorized areas, and more.

The AutoVu SharpZ3 and Genetec's full portfolio of security, operations and intelligence solutions will be on display April 20-22, 2020 at Genetec Connect'DX (#GenetecConnectDX), the company's three-day live virtual trade show.
