International. From July 15 to 17, SECURITY SALES was specially invited to visit Genetec's offices in Montreal, Canada, within the framework of the Global Press Summit 2019, which included an agenda of conferences with key topics for modern security, such as Deep Learning and identity protection through certificates beyond passwords.
In this regard, Pierre Racz, president, CEO and founder of Genetec (pictured), said that identity protection is "a new security perimeter", and recalls that previously, IT departments focused on locating physical and digital perimeters for the protection of systems and information.
However, technological advances and the creativity of malicious hackers have allowed them to find methods to attack, for example, a website and thus steal sensitive information through man-in-the-middle attacks. "80% of websites have suffered attacks of this type, using protocols that hackers can control," says Racz.
Thus, a more robust form of identity verification that cannot be violated is necessary. A tool of this type used by Genetec's collaborators are the "hardened crypto device" with write-only memory, a small device similar to a USB pendrive, capable of generating and saving encryption keys with high-level algorithms, such as the SHA (Secure Hash Algorithm, in English). Among other uses, this small key allows you to unlock the user's computer when connecting it or also allows you to authenticate access to sensitive files only to specific users, for example.
Racz also took a tour of the four levels of identity authentication, starting with level 1 that only requires the presence of the user, 2, which requires a password, 3 that also needs a token like the devices mentioned above, and finally level 4, which requires biometric authentication.
An example of implementing this type of security with blockchain policies is a hospital, where when a patient enters, a medical record is created which has different levels of access, regulating them according to who tries to see the records, on certain dates and you can even define at what times in the day.
During the Global Press Summit, topics were also discussed on the protection of sensitive assets, such as cannabis crops and stores, after its legalization in 2018, and the visit concluded with a tour of the Montreal Casino, where different systems designed by Genetec have been successfully implemented, such as the ALPR (Automatic License Plate Recognition) for car license plate recognition.
This invitation was also attended by journalists from different mass media and security specialists from Canada, the United States, Mexico and Brazil, as well as from different countries in Europe.
