High-tech security in logistics chain from Sony

Latin America. With an extensive legacy of more than 500 years, Gebrüder Weiss is one of the longest-running transport and logistics companies in Europe. Headquartered in Vorarlberg, Austria, and with more than 7,000 employees in 150 locations around the world, it is also one of the largest.

Gebrüder Weiss have customers of all sizes, who rely on the company to ship their goods quickly, safely and undamaged to their destination. To ensure this and achieve a complete traceable logistics chain, the service provider relies on comprehensive video surveillance in its logistics centers, which is regularly updated to incorporate the latest cutting-edge technology.

Gebrüder Weiss has now expanded its existing surveillance solution at the company's largest distribution center in Maria Lazendorf near Vienna, which previously featured nearly 500 Sony cameras and video management software (VMS) from Milestone. This has been complemented by the integration of 33 Sony SNC-VM772R 4K video security cameras.

The update ensures increased security, complete tracking of the package, and the ability to track any damage. Sony's new 4K cameras are mainly used to monitor recharging from the largest trailers to the smallest trucks. Its field of view covers the exact place of transfer, as well as the inside of trailers and conveyor belts.

The SNC-VM772R camera features a large CMOS sensor with 4K resolution, which combines excellent image quality and a large depth field, even in difficult lighting conditions. The camera's robust design with built-in image stabilization ensures smooth, clear video images despite vibration, dust and exhaust gases from on the road.

The installation of the cameras ensures that the entire transit area is monitored at all hours, with no blind spots caused by vehicles or pallets. In addition, the new 4K cameras can follow multiple objects simultaneously with both VGA and Full HD resolution. The SNC-VM772R's 20-megapixel image sensor also enables the capture of high-quality evidence capture, still images with a resolution greater than 4K that allows even the smallest detail to be clearly displayed. For Gebrüder Weiss, the Sony solution is therefore an outstanding alternative to many of the PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) cameras or multi-sensor systems.

Installation and integration into the existing environment was carried out by ÖWD Österreichischer Wachdienst Security & Services, Sony's local partner. With 2,800 employees, ÖWD is one of the largest security companies in Austria, maintaining all-hour technical equipment in all Austrian states.

"Since it opened in 2006 we have used Sony cameras in our terminal in Maria Lanzendorf, our largest terminal in the world," says Werner Drnec, Head of Operations at Gebrüder Weiss, Maria Lanzendorf. "Both image quality and reliability, with near-zero error rates, have always exceeded our expectations, and even in the current project it was demonstrated in a direct comparison with other alternatives.

Our trust in the Sony brand, coupled with easy and seamless integration into our existing environment, adds to this."
