ESA's National Training School (Electronic Security Association) has updated the requirements to obtain its most popular certifications, including the Level II Certified Alarm Technician (CAT II), the Level II Certified Fire Alarm Technician (CFAT) and the Level III Certified Fire Alarm Designer (CFAD).
The changes allow certifications to meet current evolving requirements and make them more valuable to industry professionals.
Certified Alarm Technician Level II (CAT II) and Certified Fire Alarm Technician Level II (CFAT)
While the specific training and experience requirements for obtaining the Level II Alarm Technician Certificate (CAT II) and Level II Fire Alarm Certificate (CFAT) certifications remain unchanged: students must still complete the same prescribed classwork and provide proof of 24 months of industry experience; updated certification applications have been revised to include components to verify work history and field competence.
Certified Fire Alarm Designer (CFAD)
Although the prescribed courses have not changed to obtain this certification, all candidates must show proof of 60 months of experience and pass a full exam after successfully completing all courses. The updated application for this certification has been revised to include components to verify work history, field competence and now includes a personal recommendation form, which must be completed by a professional who is familiar with the professionalism, ethical standards and technical skills of the applicant.
