International. According to a new report from Parks Associates, more than six million people are expected to use a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) device by 2021, nearly double the estimated 3.36 million who used one at the end of 2017.
The research firm says this anticipated growth will be driven by new wearable devices, such as smartwatches and smartphone-based professional monitoring services.
"Growth in senior populations is responsible, in part, for the growth in the PERS market," Jennifer Kent, director of quality research and product development at Parks Associates, said in the statement. "Products like fitness trackers and smartwatches with user-centric designs have put pressure on PERS manufacturers to improve designs and incorporate smart features into their solutions. In addition, partnerships from companies like MobileHelp and Samsung are expanding the traditional notion of PERS by offering subscribers a Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch as their PERS device."
The company will analyze innovations and consumer demand for connected health solutions in greater depth during the fifth annual Connected Health Summit, to be held next month in San Diego.
