VideoEdge NVR Becomes First Product to Achieve UL 2900-2-3 Certification

International. Johnson Controls announced that its  American Dynamics VideoEdge network video recording platform is the first officially certified product that meets UL(Underwriters Laboratories)' highest third-party cybersecurity standards for the preservation and protection of life, UL2900-2-3.

UL's Cybersecurity Assurance Program (UL CAP) tests network-connected products and systems against the established criteria of the UL 2900 series of cybersecurity standards. The UL CAP program also evaluates manufacturer processes for cybersecurity product development, incident response and internal testing and assessment of product security vulnerabilities. To earn level  3  certification the highest UL CAP designation, the VideoEdge NVR platform underwent a series of assessments based on UL 2900-2-3, a standard developed specifically for the electronic physical security industry, which assesses vulnerabilities and vulnerabilities of a product's software and reviews its exposure to exploitation and known malware.

"The development of standardized and verifiable cybersecurity criteria by an organization like UL, the preeminent security and security certification organization, provides a level playing field for end users and system designers, who can now trust that a UL CAP certified product meets robust cybersecurity standards," said William Brown, Senior Engineering Manager, Cyber Protection Program, Building Technologies & Solutions, Johnson Controls. "We are very proud of this first UL CAP certification as it encapsulates the spirit of our Tyco, Cyber Protection's Product Security Program and our culture of engineering, product development and support, which is to provide our customers with solutions designed to meet a high degree of security and reliability and provide positive operational impact."

"Introducing the VideoEdge NVR platform for UL CAP assessment and certification demonstrates Johnson Controls' commitment to supporting its customers and end users," said Ken Modeste, director of UL's Connected Technologies business. "The product presented by Johnson Controls meets the best practices of the cybersecurity industry backed by science and provides them with a higher level of trust and confidence."
