CommScope enhances its imVision solution for Power over Ethernet (PoE)

Latin America. According to several sources, Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology is on a fast-paced growth trajectory.

A report by Grand View Research projects that the PoE market will exceed $3.75 billion by 2025.

An article in the Data Center Journal has estimated that the number of PoE ports installed globally already exceeds 100 million.

The 4PPoE (4-Pair PoE) standard is expected to be approved next year, making way for 45 million more devices to be powered by the network.

CommScope, a global leader in network infrastructure solutions, supports its customers' growing PoE needs by introducing new software capabilities into imVision, its unique Automated Infrastructure Management (AIM) system.

The enhanced imVision version capability supports Cisco switches, allowing IT administrators to keep track of the location of powered PoE devices, while providing greater visibility as to where PoE services are located and where they can be deployed.

"Serving today's smart building market requires Support for PoE and an ecosystem approach that brings together technology leaders to deliver unbeatable solutions," said Ed Solis, Director enterprise strategy at CommScope. "CommScope's networking experts work with standards organizations to help evolve PoE standards, and directly with partners and customers to provide efficient PoE solutions."

PoE growth trends are due to the rise of connected IoT devices in buildings, such as LED lighting systems, security cameras, wireless access points, etc.; as well as the convergence of IT and building operation technology. PoE technology is capable of securely transmitting electricity along with data to remote devices via twisted pair cabling. Most people know PoE at first instance from the use of Voice Over IP (VoIP) phones, which were the first devices to be deployed in bulk that used PoE.

CommScope has contributed significantly to standardization efforts at the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE), as well as with wiring standards groups at the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC). imVision is the first AIM solution to implement TIA, CENELEC and ISO/IEC guidelines for tracking energized PoE cables in a bunch or group of cables.
