Technology for opening doors through mobile devices

Colombia. Axis Communications launches a solution with HID Global that turns smartphones into access credentials to buildings, rooms and secure areas. Access control technology through mobile devices meets the demand for offices that have employees with corporate cell phones, as well as gated communities and commercial condominiums in search of a higher level of security.

Widely popular, smartphones have received new functionalities every day, including contactless payments and monitoring of user health conditions. The list of possible functions of a mobile phone is increased with Axis' proposal that turns the smartphone into a credential, which integrates HID Global's Mobile Access technology with AXIS A1001 door controller and AXIS Entry Manager software. The user now has the convenience of a mobile device with the high level of security required by the professional sector.

Instead of ID credentials printed on a card in a traditional way to open and close doors and turnstiles, the solution stores identities securely on smartphones. In addition to being more convenient for the user, the entire issuance process becomes simpler and safer.

For example, in the case of a store the system can be used so that only some employees have access to certain areas. In a university, some students may have exclusive access to laboratories, without students from other courses frequenting the space. In a factory, the system can serve in the entry and exit of service providers.

This is the world's first integration of an open IP-based mobile access control solution with manufacturer HID Global. The open IP platform allows any developer to use this integration to improve their access control systems.

"The use of mobile credentials is becoming more responsive thanks to the growing perspective of prioritizing mobile devices, either as a work tool or for personal use," explains Jimena Genetti, Enterprise Solutions Manager at Axis. "It's only natural that this shift in culture would incentivize manufacturers to expand technological possibilities with those devices, from paying for a purchase at a clothing store to opening a game room in a condo."

The novelty will be demonstrated at the Axis Communications stand at IFSEC International 2017, from 20 to 22 June, in London, England.
