CommScope Joins Smart Cities Council as Lead Partner

Latin America. The Council's goal is to help create a vision, build an action plan, and measure the success of its smart city initiatives.

Currently, according to Navigant Research, there are more than 250 'smart cities' projects in progress globally, and projections indicate that this number will increase significantly in the coming years. CommScope, a global leader in infrastructure solutions for communications networks, became a leading partner of the Smart Cities Council to help transform cities and support the growth of digital technology and smart solutions.

"The Council's goal is to help city leaders create a vision, build an action plan, and measure the success of their smart city initiatives," said Jesse Berst, President of the Smart Cities Council. "We are thrilled to have CommScope working with us to help cities efficiently understand technologies that will improve livability, viability and sustainability in their communities."

From emergency services and transportation response, to citizen services and the 'smart' lifestyle, one of the critical needs cities face is to have a reliable communications network infrastructure to enable the integrated, cross-cutting technologies that make up a smart city.

"The United Nations estimates that 70% of the world's population will be urban by 2050, which means that cities will need to have an infrastructure that supports the growth and densification of 'super cities,'" added Morgan Kurk, Chief Technology Officer at CommScope. "We are excited to be a Leading Partner of the Smart Cities Council, while looking at the needs of the cities and the people who live there."

As for the Council, CommScope's vision for smart cities is to connect and optimize services and resources to meet the demands of population growth in urban centers.

CommScope's wireless and fiber optic solutions for smart cities connect buildings, cell towers, street equipment, people and other devices across the city and within commercial buildings and venues. All public or private networks, whether wired or wireless, are enabled by CommScope solutions, including emergency services response, traffic control and monitoring, parking, security and access control for buildings, cell phones, IoT devices, facial recognition and violence detection.
