Energy and cooling, critical elements for Edge Computing

Latin America. Immediacy is a priority of today's world and this tool allows access to data in an agile and instant way.

Edge computing is transforming computing capabilities, achieving intelligent storage and management, enough to reduce latency and potential cloud security issues without clogging the core of the network.

Edge computing is where many IoT applications will be established. In many cases, these systems will be tasked with capturing, organizing, and analyzing the data to quickly reveal insights that can be used. Such tasks require quick responses that cloud-based systems located in some remote and far-flung data center cannot always deliver in a timely and affordable manner. Instead, centralized cloud infrastructures will handle workloads where immediacy is a priority.

In this sense, edge computing will lead to the creation of micro data centers that, like large data centers, will require power and cooling to function properly. Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management and automation, presents the top five reasons why these two elements are key points for successful systems implementation.

Infrastructure Protection
The location of solutions is changing but the need to protect them from power outages, humidity and high temperatures do not go away. All of these micro data centers that will handle tasks will need the same levels of security, redundancy, backup, and of course, power and cooling that seek their care.

Management Opportunities
The micro data centers will be relocated in the environments of the networks, cabling and servers, for this the specialists must manage the energy and cooling solutions that protect these assets at the Edge. Companies will have to resort to suppliers who are experts in implementation and maintenance so as not to fall into excessive or unbudgeted expenses.

Managed Services
If you have a managed services practice, you can enable power and cooling in another RMM (Remote Monitoring and Management) service. Scalable and adaptable to diverse environments, APC by Schneider Electric InfraStruxure solutions can be mounted on site or delivered as pre-configured solutions. This makes them a perfect fit for the edge computing infrastructure and their remote management capabilities provide a natural extension to managed service offerings. MSPs can also leverage the integration of Smart-UPS solutions with RMM platforms to deliver power and cooling as a managed service.

New business
The creation of micro data centers at Egde Computing brings the promise of new business – with new and existing customers. These data centers aren't displacing anything in most cases; they are actually adding computing power and storage, thus creating new business opportunities to sell power and cooling. As such, they provide a growth path for your business.

Increased revenue
As companies build servers designed for the edge and for applications, such as facial recognition in different environments or in the monitoring of health devices, they will create new revenue potential for providers. If you approach the opportunity with a service mindset, you'll see new revenue in two ways: the initial technology sale and recurring revenue from power delivery and cooling as a managed service.
