Colombia. UL began its operation in the country from where it will direct the entire Andean Region, Colombia was chosen because 67% of the multinational's business in the Andean area is done in Colombia. "UL is the first body to obtain accreditation to certify products and companies in energy efficiency under the RETIQ regulation of the Ministry of Mines and Energy in Colombia," said Eng. Héctor Garzón Granados, Country Manager for Colombia and the Andean Region of the company.
Garzón also added that he has been working with Procolombia and Bancóldex and with other organizations and entities in Peru and Ecuador, to contribute to the exports that are made to countries such as Canada and the United States, where customers demand ul brand certifications in their markets, and also supporting with the Global Market Access (GMA) strategy and contributing to the businesses of Colombian companies and the Andean area that wish to strengthen or start their presence in various countries that recognize the UL brand as a trusted brand.
For his part, Gitte Schjotz, President of UL International (EMEA, LA & Greater Asia), who was in Colombia for the launch event of the UL office and delivery of the accreditation explained that Colombia was chosen because the growth of its population and industry has been very important in the sales of the Andean Area, Colombia represents the largest volume of our business, there is also a maturity in the market and is the most industrial country in the region.
In Colombia, UL will carry out product certification processes initially with five technical regulations , both to manufacturers and importers. These are the RETIE: electrical safety regulation; RETILAP: lighting regulation; RETIQ: energy efficiency; GASODOMÉSTICOS AND REFRIGERATORS, to serve customers manufacturers or importers.
The UL mark has appeared on 22 billion products of all types and sizes, uses and economic sectors, translating into approval and certification under rigorous safety standards that give manufacturers, distributors and users peace of mind.
