International. Milestone Systems, the open platform network video management software (VMS) company, released device pack 8.7 for the benefit of partners and customers using Milestone's XProtect video solutions.
Device packs are released every two months and contain software updates that support new equipment. These updates are rooted in demands from the partner community. Thanks to the core technology, a truly open platform, Milestone is rapidly adding support for new devices and features for the Xprotect portfolio.
This Milestone device pack also includes support for the latest version of Axis Zipstream technology, an advanced compression technology that enables variable compression as well as variable bitrate. According to Axis, this compression technology can reduce the required bandwidth by up to 50% without a major loss in image quality on compatible Axis cameras.
This technology increases compression when less motion is detected in the video. In addition to reducing bandwidth requirements, using advanced compression technologies such as Zipstream can also save disk storage space on system recording servers. Milestone's VMS has been supporting advanced compression technologies since 2012 and is constantly incorporating new technologies.
More than 200 Axis cameras have been validated with the latest XProtect firmware in order to ensure the highest degree of system security.
Additionally, in the device pack 8.7, almost 100 new models of Dahua cameras have been added to the portfolio, including several network video recorders and new cameras with 4K resolution. All new devices supported by this device pack meet ONVIF specifications and have undergone verification testing by Dahua.
Milestone works closely with device manufacturers that are part of the Camera Partner Program (CaPP) to achieve optimal interaction between their devices and the XProtect VMS. As part of Milestone's CaPP program, ONVIF functionality testing can be done through Milestone or distributors, who can perform them at their own facility, after doing a four-day training course taught by Milestone. The ability to carry out the entire Milestone certification testing process saves camera manufacturers time and costs in their market penetration strategy.
In addition to the cameras included in this device pack, new functions have been incorporated that allow easy connection and configuration of the system in certain Milestone Husky network video recorders. These functions allow automatic configuration of ip address and NTP/time settings.
