International. Hikvision announced that the Memphis Police Department (MPD) has been awarded the National Security Award, as a result of its partnership with Hikvision. Presented by Government Security News, the MPD was given the award in the category of "More, Detention, Counterterrorism, Notable Prevention Program Interdiction or Crime Law Enforcement."
Government Security News' awards programs was founded in 2009 to honor the work of IT providers, and integrated physical security solutions, and federal, state, county, and municipal government officials whose combined efforts protect the United States from all threats.
When talking about this year's awards, Adrian Courtenay, CEO and editorial director of Government Security News, said: "The technological advances of suppliers, the programs and strategies of increasingly sophisticated government agencies are mind-boggling in their excellence."
The use of video surveillance MPDs to protect the city of Memphis encompasses nearly 600 Hikvision cameras, many of which have smart features such as line crossing and intrusion detection that allow the cameras to send instant alerts to police officers when someone enters or leaves a designated area.
The cameras are mounted on mobile trailers and power poles, sending data to MPD's Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), where a video screen displays live footage from live cameras across the city. The RTCC incorporates custom software that provides information about activity patterns and criminal offense. All in all, MPD's crime prevention program has had a significant impact on public safety.
"We have been thrilled to use video surveillance and other state-of-the-art technologies to better serve the people of Memphis, and we are honored to be recognized for our efforts by Government Security News," said Sgt. Jose Patty, MPD's manager of video surveillance.
Jeffrey He, President of Hikvision USA and Canada Hikvision, spoke about Hikvision's commitment to its law enforcement partners. "Hikvision's high-performance products are currently serving police departments throughout North America. We are very pleased that the Memphis Police Department has achieved great benefits with its surveillance solution, and we extend our congratulations to the Memphis Police Department on their award."
